Microsoft for Soviet Macedonia

Balkans Russian History Sideline
Microsoft for Soviet Macedonia

I don’t know why, but today I stopped by Microsoft’s Bing search engine. I was greeted by a photo of located in western Macedonia near the border with Albania. When I hovered the mouse over little black squares on the photo, I was given a quick lesson in Macedonia’s history.

My knowledge of history is far from perfect, so I am always glad to learn new facts. According to gurus at Microsoft, at some point in its past Macedonia has been a part of the USSR. I wonder if Alexander the Great might have been a Soviet citizen…

P.S. I guess a few surprised Macedonians must have emailed Microsoft, which made a quick correction to the country’s Bing history. On the bright side, if there are any Stalinists in Macedonia – they finally got their wish, even if only for a few hours.
